Description of the Program
The practical nursing program at Trinity Global Institute is a one-year certificate program that prepares the student to enter nursing in the Practical Nurse role. Graduates may be employed in acute care settings, long-term care, and ambulatory settings. Graduates must take and pass the NCLEX-PN exam and meet the Board of Nursing Requirements to become licensed. LPNs often choose to continue their education by enrolling in a Registered Nursing program.
The role of the Practical Nurse is outlined in the Board of Nursing within its Nursing Practice Act.
“Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses typically do the following:
- Monitor patients’ health—for example, by checking their blood pressure
- Administer basic patient care, including changing bandages and inserting catheters
- Provide for the basic comfort of patients, such as helping them bathe or dress
- Discuss the care they are providing with patients and listen to their concerns
- Report patients’ status and concerns to registered nurses and doctors
- Keep records on patients’ health” 1
